Customer Support Engineer

Authorities:

  • Take all actions necessary for fulfilling the service support function, with the target to satisfy our internal and external customers, in collaboration with the colleagues and Service support team leader when applicable
  • Scheduling and prioritisation of Service Support duties, when assigned such responsibility by the Service Support Team Leader or MALDI Service Manager.
  • Provide remote support to urgent calls from field service engineer and authorise dispatch of necessary material by exercising their professional judgment, in case the Team Leader or MALDI Service Manager cannot be contacted
  • Carry out validation tasks when required, including risk assessments, generation of validation specifications, specified testing and the generation of associated reports.
  • Assist in generating service kits for the field in the Team Leader or Service Manager’s absence.
  • Sign MO orders / update CRM system accordingly.

Responsible to MALDI Service Manager for:

  • Carry out schedule and support task in the global operation, as assigned by Service Support Team Leader or MALDI Service Manager.
  • Travel to appropriate sites to carry out repair and maintenance operations in the most efficient and timely manner possible.
  • Provide remote support via telephone or internet means to the global pool of field service engineers.
  • Provide training to external and internal customers as assigned by Service Support Team Leader or MALDI Service Manager.
  • Carry out validation tasks as required, including risk assessments, generation of validation specifications, specified testing and the generation of associated reports.
  • Stay up-to-the-minute with all necessary technical information related to our supported instruments, essential for providing a first-class service to our customers.
  • Assist Service Support Team Leader or MALDI Service Manager in scheduling activities.
  • Provide feedback for the serviceability element of new product design, in collaboration with Service Support Team Leader or MALDI Service Manager.
  • Provide feedback from field experience on existing products, in form of DCRs.
  • Execute validation of Service Manuals and other service related material before publication, as assigned by Service Support Team Leader or MALDI Service Manager.
  • Make use of all communications channels with global service force.
  • Ensure timely resolution of service calls, including recording and reporting of final outcome, e.g. in BBS postings
  • Preparation of Service related documents, e.g. service letters, service bulletins, etc., as assigned by team leader, e.g. manuals, BBS, service instructions, etc.
  • Prepare and update service related web content for MALDI products and s/w, as assigned by Service Support Team Leader or MALDI Service Manager.
  • Feedback on sales situation – prospects, sales etc,
  • Liaise with sales personnel as appropriate, with service related information and training

Qualifications

Degree or equivalent professional qualification, specialising in electronics or system engineering

Experience

  • Experience in servicing of MALDI Product or equivalent complexity equipment, including mechanical, optical and electronic components.
  • Awareness of sales process desirable
  • Desirable proven experience of providing service to customers with global exposure

MALDI Systems & Validation Test Engineer

Summary of job

  • The test of MALDI TOF instrument systems, checking their performance for reliability and specification levels under various conditions.
  • Recording and testing MALDI systems to procedures, analysing results and experimental data to determine pass / fail.
  • Proposing and enacting where appropriate remedial action, ensuring quality control of final system and individual products.
  • Enacting validation experiments and procedures, identify instrument / component performance, ensuring all observations and data are recorded.Analysing results and experimental data to determine pass / fail.
  • All activity to comply to ISO9001 & ISO 13485 (cGMP)

Authorities

  • To raise NCR / DCR for record & corrective action
  • To complete all relevant control documentation
  • To report errors in all control documentation
  • To report any suspected health and safety concerns

Responsibilities

  • Final test of MALDI TOF instrument systems, checking their performance for reliability and specification levels under a various conditions.
  • Record and test of MALDI systems to procedure, analysis of results and experimental data to determine pass / fail.
  • Propose and enact where appropriate remedial action, ensuring quality control of final system and individual products / sub assemblies.
  • Enact validation experiments and procedures, identify instrument / component performance, ensure all observations and data are recorded, complying to regulatory requirements.  Analysing results and experimental data to determine pass / fail.
  • Help to drive on team measures, facilitating and driving continuous improvements.
  • When required, train new engineers and peers.
  • Correct use of tools and processes, described in SAMI's & Test procedures.
  • Comply to ISO9001 & ISO 13485 (cGMP)
  • If required Commissioning of instruments within the U.K. and R.O.W. territories 
  • Health and Safety policy & procedures

Qualifications - Essential or Desirable

  • Degree science / engineering basis; Chemistry, Physics, Biological, Electronics or as a Minimum HND qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Solid base understanding of none core degree items e.g. Chemistry, Physics, Biological, Electronics to ‘A’ Level or equivalent

Experience

  • Instrumentation operation and fault diagnosis
  • Microbial identification knowledge using MALDI TOF instrumentation
  • Microbial identification experimental data collection and analysis
  • MALDI TOF instrumentation new product introduction support

Job Related Aptitude and Skills

  • Proven ability to work in a high performing team to achieving planned deadlines.

Job Description - Software Engineer

Responsible to the Software Manager for the development of bespoke solutions for both MALDI and Surface Analysis products.

Requirements

  • BSc in Computer Science or a related degree.
  • Extensive experiences in software development, full stack development, computer languages and project management.
  • Experience using system monitoring tools, profiling tools and continuous integration tools.
  • Knowledge of selected programming languages, frameworks and methodologies C#, PRISM, MongoDB, SQL, MVVM and WPF.
  • In-depth knowledge of relational databases such as SQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.

Job Responsibilities

Responsible to Physics department Manager for specific parts of product design including:

  • Working within the current Kratos quality system
  • Ensure the company health and safety procedures are adhered to all the time, and to only operating equipment for which you are suitably qualified or have received a suitable training.
  • Take a project leading role for assigned projects.
  • Engineering specification of new designs.
  • Detailed design and associated documentation. (electron and ion optics, vacuum systems, control systems etc.)
  • To provide as accurate as possible estimates of timescales for designs.
  • Use of the MIS systems (Infoflo and DDM) for creating and controlling bills of materials, drawing numbers and bought out parts.
  • Raising MCN’s for design change
  • Raising permits and concessions as appropriate to allow production to continue.
  • Creation of test procedures and user manuals for instruments.
  • Providing support to fitters and test engineers to allow shipment of instruments.
  • Providing sales support to sales/application engineers
  • Building prototype assemblies.
  • To keep up to date with available third party components.
  • To raise DCR’s whenever problems or opportunities arise.
  • Evaluation and testing of prototype designs.
  • QA evaluation of completed designs under supervision of the QA department.

Electronics Design Engineer

Summary of job

This position reports to the Senior Manager Electronics. The role is based in the company's R & D Department and focuses on the development of new, sophisticated, electronic systems & subsystems. Working shoulder to shoulder with enthusiastic Physicists, Software and Mechanical Engineers, the work will encompass the full product life cycle from system design specifications through to manufacture.

Authorities

  • Peer group approval of design documentation, PCB layouts and PLD/FPGA code before release.
  • Rework of production material if approved.
  • Requisition of components for prototypes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to Senior Manager Electronics for specific parts of product design and working to the current Kratos quality system.
  • Ensure the company health and safety procedures are adhered to all the time, only operating equipment for which you are suitably qualified or have received suitable training.
  • Production of the specifications for new designs.
  • Detailed design and associated documentation (schematics, PCB layouts and PLD/FPGA configurations).
  • Provide the Senior Manager Electronics and/or R&D Manager with as accurate as possible, estimates of timescales for designs.
  • Use the Management Information Systems for creating and controlling bills of materials, drawing numbers and bought out parts.
  • Raising Manufacturing Change Notes for design changes and enhancements.
  • Raising permits and concessions as appropriate to allow production to continue.
  • The implementation of approved changes to the design.
  • Liaison with new and old suppliers both on and off site.
  • Liaison with Fitters and Test Engineers.
  • Building prototype assemblies.
  • Meet appropriate company, national and international standards in product design, e.g. ISO61010, ISO13485, 21CFR820 etc..
  • To keep up to date with available third party components.
  • To keep up to date with design techniques of analogue and digital circuits as well as PLD/FPGA design. To raise Design Change Requests whenever problems or opportunities arise.
  • Evaluation and testing of prototype designs.
  • Investigation of problems found on existing designs in engineering, test and from field failures.
  • Provide support to the Purchasing team to evaluate new and existing suppliers.
  • Providing technical assistance and advice to colleagues as required.

Qualifications

BSc/BEng degree in Electronics (or equivalent experience/competences).

Experience

  • Experience in the development of XPS or MALDI Mass Spectrometer instruments, (or similar scientific or medical devices) to FDA (where applicable) and other requirements with demonstrable experience of at least 5 years
  • Experience designing both digital and analogue electronics, preferably including FPGA design skills.
  • Experienced with simulation, design verification
  • Experience in design for volume manufacture
  • Experience of designing for EMC, RoHS and UL approved products is a benefit.
  • Experience with component/product risk assessment and FMEA.

Job Related Aptitude and Skills

  • Good all round electronics design skills and experience; designing embedded FPGA control and acquisition systems will be considered an advantage.
  • Digital and analogue design skills.
  • Schematic Capture and PCB Design – “Cadstar” preferred.
  • HV design knowledge is an advantage.
  • C firmware design –  Xilinx “Microblaze” experience an advantage.
