March 31, 2020, marks the 145th anniversary since Shimadzu Corporation was founded.
"Contributing to Society through Science and Technology” has always represented the unwavering spirit of Shimadzu since the day the company was founded. That spirit continues to be passed on to successive generations at Shimadzu Group Companies, including Kratos, as the official corporate philosophy.
This anniversary is particularly poinient for Kratos Analytical as our current Managing Director, Kozo Shimazu, is a direct decendent of the founder Genzo Shimadzu Sr. It was Kozo's great-great grandfather's strong conviction that Japan should become a leader in science, his intention was to contribute to society through the dissemination of scientific knowledge. The story of Shimadzu Corporation begins on March 31, 1875, when Genzo Senior started manufacturing educational physics and chemistry instruments.
Then Genzo Junior, driven by a passion inherited from his father, developed the family business into a successful commercial enterprise in the basic form it is today, while also taking on the challenge of developing businesses in a variety of new fields.
Kozo Shimazu continues this philosophy with Kratos Analytical continuing to develop state-of-the-art X-ray photoelectron spectrometers and MALDI-ToF instruments and contributing to the Shimadzu Group operations.
